Todoist vs. TickTick
Todoist is published by Todoist Inc. and has been on the App Store since 2012-11-18. TickTick is published by Appest Limited and has been available since 2013-06-19. Both are task managers with a free tier and a paid upgrade, and both are among the largest apps in the category. Where they differ most is in how each one counts what you’re allowed — Todoist limits projects, TickTick limits lists and the tasks inside them. TickTick
A task manager that bundles habits, countdowns and a Pomodoro timer alongside lists, with a free tier and a single annual Premium plan.
The free tiers are shaped so differently that the comparison turns on how you work rather than which app is better. Todoist’s free plan caps how many projects you can have. TickTick’s caps how many lists, and how many tasks go in each. If you keep a lot of small lists, one of those ceilings arrives much sooner than the other.

Where each one fits
Todoist offers monthly billing as well as annual, a free trial on both paid plans, a genuine per-user team plan reaching 1,000 members, and a free tier whose limit is projects rather than tasks, so a small number of large projects costs nothing. Against that, its free plan allows only 5 active projects and 7 days of history, it lists 19 languages against TickTick’s 41, and it requires iOS 17.0 where TickTick runs on 15.5. What Todoist costs lists all three plans and what each one caps.
TickTick includes considerably more at the same tier, with habits, countdowns and a Pomodoro timer built in, 41 languages, and a free plan that allows 9 lists and 99 tasks in each. Against that, its upgrade page offers annual billing only, it names no separate team plan, and its free tier allows just 1 attachment a day and 2 reminders per task. What TickTick costs goes through everything TickTick counts on the free plan.
What we couldn’t verify
These are questions the published sources do not answer. They are listed here unresolved rather than guessed at.
- How many attachments a day TickTick Premium allows. Its App Store description says 99 and its upgrade page says 199
- Whether TickTick offers monthly billing. Its upgrade page shows an annual price only, and the App Store listing names no figure
- What Todoist’s pricing page itself states, since that page renders its prices in JavaScript and returned no figures when read as text — the numbers here come from Todoist’s own pricing FAQ instead
- Whether either app’s in-app subscription price matches the price on its website, which App Store listings do not show
- What Todoist’s Business plan includes beyond the limits named above, which the FAQ does not fully enumerate
