Where each one fits

Genius Scan suits someone who wants to know what they are agreeing to before they agree to it. The pricing page names three plans, attaches a figure to each, and says what each one adds, and the App Store description marks the premium features inline so the free boundary can be read off the feature list itself. The free version is presented as a complete scanner rather than a trial: detection, correction, filters, batch scanning, merging and splitting, multi-page PDFs, tagging and search are all unmarked, and email is an unmarked export route. What Ultra adds at $39.99/year is text recognition, the named cloud destinations, backup and sync, and the security features. The clarity is not total — the App Store description sells a “Genius Scan Plus plan” and a separate Genius Cloud subscription that the pricing page never mentions, and the purchase list carries Ultra at three different annual-looking figures — but a reader can still arrive at a number before installing anything.

SwiftScan suits someone who wants a scanner with fax built in and is willing to find out the price at the purchase sheet. It covers more ground than Genius Scan on paper, and it covers it without tier markings: OCR, redaction, e-signatures, password protection, a long list of cloud destinations and fax all appear in one undifferentiated feature list, so nothing published indicates which of them survive without paying. Sending a fax is a separate purchase from any subscription. It also asks less of the device than Genius Scan does — the two listings set different minimum iOS floors, which the At a glance table above records. The practical consequence is that the download decision and the pricing decision cannot be made at the same time. What SwiftScan costs sets out the full purchase list, the second listing that sells for $199.99, and the third-party lifetime offer that has carried a $199.99 regular price for the past year.
