Quizlet vs. Knowt
Quizlet is published by Quizlet Inc and has been on the App Store since 2012-08-09. Knowt is published by Knowt Inc. and has been available since 2023-10-13. Both are free to download with paid tiers, and Knowt’s own listing describes importing flashcard sets from Quizlet. This comparison is built from what each developer publishes — App Store listings and Knowt’s own plans page — with every claim sourced and anything unverifiable listed as such.
Everything below comes from published sources, checked on 2026-08-09 and linked in each section. Where the sources don’t answer a question, it’s listed under What we couldn’t verify rather than guessed at.
Quizlet
A long-established study platform with a vast library of user-created sets, practice tests and homework solutions.
Knowt
A newer study app built around AI-generated flashcards and notes, which its listing says can import sets from other platforms.
Knowt is aimed at people leaving Quizlet: its listing describes importing Quizlet sets, and it advertises unlimited Learn mode on the free plan. If you want the largest library and the widest language support, Quizlet is still far bigger. If what sent you looking was hitting a paywall on the study mode you actually use, that is the gap Knowt is aiming at.

Sources for this section: Quizlet App Store listing, Knowt App Store listing, and Knowt plans page. All three were checked on 2026-08-09. Published feature lists change — check the current pages before relying on any row above. A heavier amber rule marks a row where the two apps meaningfully differ.
Where each one fits
Quizlet is the larger of the two by a wide margin — 1,099,444 ratings against Knowt’s 10,232, 17 languages against one, and thirteen years on the App Store — and it carries expert-authored step-by-step homework solutions, which Knowt does not offer. Against that, its listing does not state what the free plan includes, and offline access to saved decks sits behind the paid tier.
Knowt publishes its prices, gives unlimited rounds of Learn mode on the free plan, imports sets from other platforms including Quizlet, and generates flashcards and practice tests from notes, PDFs and lecture videos. It also runs on iOS 16.4 against Quizlet’s 17. Against that, it is English only, and it is far smaller than Quizlet by any measure in the table above.
What we couldn’t verify
These are questions the published sources do not answer. They are listed here unresolved rather than guessed at.
- What Quizlet’s paid tier costs; its own pricing pages could not be read for this comparison and third-party figures disagree
- What Quizlet’s free plan limits, which its listing does not state
- Whether Knowt’s published prices differ between its student and teacher plans, since its plans page offers both and only one set of figures was returned
- Knowt’s claim of seven million students, which no independent source establishes
- How reliably Knowt imports sets from other platforms in practice, which no published source establishes
